Music
At Luton Infant and Nursery School we want to make sure that no child is left out when it comes to learning to be a musician. It is proven that children who engage in high quality, regular musical learning from an early age gain musical, intellectual, emotional and social advantages. We have a specially developed music curriculum designed with the Voices Foundation. The Voices Foundation is a national charity which uses the power of singing to improve the lives of children and young people in the UK. We undertook a two year programme training and mentoring teachers to develop their personal musicianship and their ability to lead effective musical learning for children and young people.
Music is valued throughout the school and the children have regular opportunities to share their music making and singing with parents, carers and the wider community. In the autumn, all key stage one classes travel to Christ Church Luton for our annual Harvest celebrations. Our Christmas performances are always a highlight for both the children and their families. Year 1 classes take part in the annual Dynamics Music Programme, receiving 8 weeks of exciting music sessions with a specialist music teacher. In the spring, year 2 classes take part in the Annual Music Festival performing as part of a multi school ensemble and performing their solo number on the stage of the Central Theatre Chatham. The Leavers Concert in the summer term provides a final opportunity for Year 2 to share their music making. Within school, end of term singing celebration assemblies involve the whole school from nursery upwards, allowing each year group to demonstrate and share the new songs and musical skills they have been working on.
